52nd National Inter-School Team Chess Championship 2011

It was my 2nd school team competition and I was very excited. It was again held at Rulang Primary School. We reached there at about 7.45am and we looked for a place to sit and wait for the rest of our school friends to arrive.

I played in Board 3 for the first 2 games against Northland and RGPS and I won both games. I was so happy to be able to win this 2 school. We moves up the ranking table and I too was moved to play on 2nd board as the girl on board 2 was not doing very well. The coach wanted her to take a break. We played against Nanyang Pri and I was very very happy to win them too!

We had our McDonald lunch in the canteen and rested before gathering up in the hall for group photos.

U9 girls Team 1

Entire School Team

Entire family!!!

Our team was second placing after 3 rounds and we meet the leader - SCGS. They were very good. They had scored a total of 11 points and we had 9 points (max score 4 point per round). We were under lot of pressure playing with them. We all tried our best but only our team captain (board 1) managed to win the round. The other 3 of us lost...

I know my opponent from SCGS..we were from the same chess class...

In deep thoughts...

Then we lost again to Northland Team 1 before winning 3 1/2points against Kheng Cheng Pri. So our total points scored was 13 1/2 and we were 5th place in National School Team Championship. No medal for getting 5th but all was not lost! They also have the zonal prize and our team was 2nd in this category! Its my FIRST time winning 2nd! I was so so happy!!!

Waiting to go up and collect our medal...

Our team and Guest of honour - Halimah Yacob

We went home happy as I got 2nd and my sister got 1st and 2nd. Mummy congratulated me for my outstanding performance and I was 16th place out of 52 in the Under-9 girls category. I hope I can break the jinx of winning only 4 games the next time.
