2nd Swensen's Open Rapid Age-Group Chess Championship 2011

2nd Swensen Age-Group Chess Competition

My first overseas chess competition. I was really excited about it and the the thing I look forward to most is to stay in a hotel! I love staying in hotel!

Daddy fetched us to the airport in the morning. He will look after my two brothers while mummy comes with us. The flight is very very short. Not long after we took off, they announced that we are landing soon! We took a taxi to the hotel which is about 45minutes away. We were disappointed that the hotel room is small. Mummy found out that it's not a 5 stars hotel. We settled in fast and did some chess revision exercises then went for dinner with our chess friend, Sarah and aunty Vivien at a Japanese restaurant. Went shopping for a while and mummy said we need to go back and rest.

Morning came and we went down to the function room where we will be having our competition. There were 11 of us from Singapore. I played in the Under-10 category. I only managed to win 3 games out of 6. I could have won more but I was too excited and nervous and I blander most of my games. The last game was the worst blander. I kept telling myself to think, plan ahead and I actually moves my 2nd step before my 1st step!!

We went for a group dinner and took a cab to the airport. I was dead beat and fell asleep in the taxi. Although I didn't win anything, it's a good experience and I hope to come again next year.
