Children's Day Celebration Chess Challenge 2010

During the last competition, we were told that there's another competition coming up on Children's Day and those interested can register for it. We asked mommy if we could join and that's how we ended here today.

We got there just in time and had to scramble around to find our placing and then dashed to our seats. I was playing under the "under 8" age group. As I was settling down, the announcer asked us to stand up and welcome the Guest-of-Honour, Mr. K Shanmugam. Then, the arbiter announced the game began.

For the first round, I played with a boy and I lost. Came out and saw jiejie feasting on some candyfloss and Milo and I went to grab some too.

For the second round, I played with a boy again and this round, I draw. When I came out, we dug into mummy's backpack for treats and each got a packet of roasted seaweed.

I draw the third round and we had our lunch. While we stayed there reading our storybooks, mummy went to the nearby coffee shop to get us our lunch. I ate wanton noodle while Jie Jie ate chicken rice.

My first win came on the fourth round and I was so excited! As my points gets higher, my placing went up too and I played with a boy who is in advanced level. So, I lost the fifth round.

I won the last 2 rounds. The girl I played with on the sixth round is very talkative. Actually, mummy said I'm just as bad because I was very nosey too. Whenever the players next to me raised their hands, I would look at them and forgot about my own.

Shaking hands with my opponent before the start of the sixth game.

Attacking my 7th opponent's pieces!

So my total point scored was 4 and that put me in the 73rd place out of a total of 177 participants in my category and I'm in the top 15 for girls under 8 yrs old!

We each had a merit medal to take home with. Oh, I saw some of my schoolmates there too.
