National School Chess Competition

A few weeks ago, I was selected for a National School Chess Competition. I felt very excited I was one of the 15 students from my school to be selected to go to a Chess Competition even though I only officially learn how to play chess this year.

To prepare us for the game, those selected was told to stay back after the Chess class on Monday for additional one hour for briefing on the rules and had some practice.

The Chess Competition day came. We had to report to school at 7.30am. Before leaving, mommy reminded us to enjoy ourselves and not put too much stress on winning. She said we should treat it as an experience and just enjoy.

We had to play a total of 8 rounds. I won 3 rounds; draw 1 round and lost 4 rounds. I was a little disappointed when I lost the last 2nd round as if I had won, the chances of me getting a merit medal is very high. Mommy and daddy was there to give us support and they said its okay. I had a tie for the last round and my total score is 3 1/2pts. I felt happy.

Each play round lasted for 25 minutes and after each round, we went down to the canteen for our break while waiting for the others to finish the game and for the organiser to "pair" us for the next game. We played till 6.30pm. Though the hours is long but we don't feel tired at all.

After our last game, it was prize giving time. I did not get a medal but I was still happy.
